Looking back, I wonder how we learned anything before the internet, but somehow I read that George Lucas was planning to make a total of nine films in the series, each three years apart. I was thirteen, and would have to wait until I was forty to see them all.
Star Trek was perhaps my first bona fide obsession. I simply could not get enough. I watched. I read. I wrote fan fiction. I pondered episodes and made up new ones. No one else in my family or the school shared my obsession, but I didn’t care. And, through it all, I was most obsessed with Spock.
Recently I found myself with a rare weekend during which I had no student papers to grade, no freelance deadlines looming, and the house to myself. I did some cleaning and caught up with a few minor tasks that had been collecting dust on to-do lists, but I spent most of the time marathoning Battlestar Galactica on Netflix.
I am so excited about this novel that I can hardly stand it! It’s a new genre for me, YA/adult science fiction, with some historical fiction thrown in for good measure. Working title: Minuteman.
