Artist’s Date, New York Weekend Edition: Library Way
We walk around all day with our heads full of swirling thoughts, doubting thoughts, thoughts that pull us away from what matters, thoughts that threaten against our better intentions to define and direct us.
What if we placed in our way a few reminders of simpler but more powerful words and ideas to bring us back to ground level where we can regain our footing?
That is what New York City does right below our feet for two blocks of East 41st Street that lead to one of the major research libraries in the New York Public Library system. When we happen to look down to check our shoelace or to sip our coffee or just to avoid the gaze of pressing crowds, we discover 96 bronze sidewalk plaques designed by Greg LeFevre, all bearing quotations from some of our world’s most cherished and beloved authors.

One of the quotations that has stayed with me is this one by Virginia Woolf:
