Hunger Games at TV Tropes

This is a good time to check in with my March goal, which is to read one fiction and one non-fiction book a week. So far, I’ve finished Catching Fire, Mockingjay, and Predictable Irrationality, so having the goal in mind is definitely helping to focus my reading time. It’s not that I necessarily want to read more, but that I want to finish more of what I start and get to more of the books that are on my “want to read” list. Next up: Stiltsville and A Whole New Mind (which I’m technically re-reading, but it’s a thorough re-reading, so that counts 🙂 ).

What did I think of the Hunger Games trilogy? I enjoyed it, and the character of Katniss in particular is now part of my world. While I haven’t thought it through well enough to write a proper review, my experience of reading Mockingjay wasn’t as satisfying as that of the first two books, in part because at times I became hyper-aware that the book was aimed at young adults, something that didn’t rise to the level of consciousness while I was reading the first two.

One aspect of the series I am interested in thinking about more is Katniss as hero/heroine, in the classic mythological sense. When I did a little searching on the topic, I found a Hunger Games page on the TV Tropes website, which fans of the book might enjoy (read more about TV Tropes).

  1. That’s a really interesting thought on Mockingjay. I’m not there yet, so I’ll have to see what I think when I have to chance to read it. Have you ever noticed that sort of shift before when reading a series?

    • That’s a good question. I don’t remember having experienced a similar shift in other series. I’ll have to think more about what the reason may have been.

What a great theme for your blog! And I love the shoes avatar. 😀
