Random Sunday Musings

“[E]verything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” ~ Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

Happy Sunday, everyone! I woke up to an unexpected inner calm this morning. Is it because I was thinking of the quotation above, following up on yesterday’s serendipity and fear/fearless post? I will not question why. I’m going to ride the feeling for as long as it lasts, thus the randomness of today’s post. 🙂

I want to be sure to share a proofreading tip from a friend: “I have my computer speak my text back to me. It’s the best proofreading method I’ve ever found. (On a Mac—system preferences, speech, text to speech.)” Brilliant! Thanks, Wenda.

When I opened my IM this morning, I found my collegiate son had sent the following video, along with the message, “BTW, for whenever you see this, here’s some nostalgia”:

Star Wars logoI saw Star Wars in a small-town theater the summer before my eighth grade year. My mother and brother left the theater mildly entertained, but I had been transported to something beyond another world and time, beyond what I could put into words. When I read that there would be eight more movies to look forward to (George Lucas’s original plan), I was ecstatic. Little did I know I would watch and enjoy the prequel trilogy with my own son, so many years later.

I’m looking forward to visiting a Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit, Organic Architecture for the 21st Century, at the Milwaukee Art Museum today with my husband and son.

Some good reads that have come my way:

“So much of life, it seems to me, is determined by pure randomness.” ~ Sidney Poitier

  1. I love mornings when I wake up with what you described as ‘unexpected inner calm’. In my case, I always wonder if the feeling sprang from my dreams, or if it’s an omen for the day to come?

I’m new to your blog but now I stop by nearly every day; you have so many great tips and resources, and overall great content. Thank you!!

    • Nadine (I really like the “about” page on your blog, btw!), I think you are right about dreams, remembered or not, affecting morning moods. Thanks for such kind words about the blog!! Made my day. 😀

  2. Lovely post. My son is a huge Star Wars fan, I remember too, being in that theater, probably going into the same grade.

This speech I have yet to try on the Mac (because I didn’t know it was there) thank you.

And your Frank Lloyd Wright Museum trip is the answer to one of my questions of the day. How funny is that? I hope you have a wonderful time.
