Bookmarkable! Literary LEGOs, 1001 Books, and Fiction Podcast

It’s Bookmarkable Friday!

A few bookmarkable blog posts and websites I’ve come across this week.

LEGO Authors

picture of LEGO HemingwayMy friend Jane is the best source of fun and unusual websites. This week she alerted me to a collection of LEGO literary figures, gleaned from a contest that asked for LEGO versions of historical figures.

The contest entries make me want to pull out our son’s LEGO collection and try a few of my own.

How Many Books Do You Want to Read in Your Lifetime?

If one of your goals is to read more and you need some ideas or just some inspiration, be sure to take a look at the blog LiteraryEscape [note: link removed 8.12.14 as it no longer is valid]. The author’s introduction speaks for itself:

“My name’s Michelle and I’m a 20 year old college student.  I’m studying Psychology at a small school in upstate New York and plan to graduate in May of 2013.  I started this blog because I decided to attempt the 1001 Books to Read challenge and thought it would be fun to keep track of my progress while meeting other readers doing the same.  My progress will probably be a bit sporadic since I’m quite busy with school, but I’m hoping to make a sizable dent in the list this year.”

So far, in 2011 alone, Michelle has read eleven books. Impressive!

New Yorker Fiction Podcast

Later today I’ll be flying to Dallas, Texas, for a conference, so I was very happy to see that the New Yorker Fiction Podcast just released their February title, John Cheever’s “The Swimmer,” read by Anne Enright and discussed with The New Yorkers fiction editor, Deborah Treisman.

Time to make sure my iPod is fully charged. 🙂

  1. Awesome! I love Legos! But, it freaked me out when I got a Harry Potter set for Valentine’s Day – they are now peach colored, not the yellow. I was like, where have I been over these past years. LOL. 😀

  2. Hi!

Thanks so much for the mention 🙂 I’m glad you found my blog useful.

One clarification – I have read 11 books so far this year, but not all of them were part of the “1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die” list, some where just ones that I had been wanting to read anyway.
